New technique
I was a little nervous when asked to create this 18th birthday cake. I have seen the pillow quilt effect before, but not tried it for muself. So, searched out some tutorials and had a go. Turned out pretty well. The key things were to work quickly, so the fondant didn’t dry out and crack, and not mess about too much with the shaping. There were some suggestions to leave the formed pillows to dry and make them easier to handle. I agree to a small wait, so it doesn’t just flop, but not too dry, as it becomes more difficult to fit it into its place on the cake.
